Butterfly Effect with Lisa
Coaching for Parents, Teens & In-betweens
Lisa Barnard
Mindset & Well-being Coach
When I was a child, my Mum taught me to bring peace to nightmares and fears by thinking about butterflies. This inspired my company, Butterfly Effect for Happiness. I later learned about Chaos Theory and its small changes leading to significant impacts.
As a teacher, I supported students with low self-esteem using mindfulness and care, and through being a Mum, I realised there’s no perfect parent, and there’s no manual. My own struggles forced me to focus on my well-being and let go of control.
Now, I work to bridge the gap between parents and teens & In-Betweens, promoting genuine communication. I believe in the power of vulnerability and nurturing the inner light in everyone, helping you turn dreams into achievable goals.

What is Butterfly Effect with Lisa, All About?
Parenting, Adulting and Teenagering, are not always an easy journey and we don’t get manuals to explain how to do them ‘right’. We might feel anxious about the future & the decisions we need to be making, what sort of role-model we are for our kids, or how our own well-being is affecting our family – Pouring from an empty cup, serves no-one.
Communication, Purpose and Leadership are all areas of life in their own right. And we may feel we have strengths or weaknesses in them, depending on what we have learned over our lifetime. However, occasionally, what we have learned about them are not conducive to our own or others overall well-being. When clear and effective communication is woven into our family structure, we can develop leadership skills and cultivate a space for our own & shared, sense of purpose.
Effective Communication Skills
- Cultivating clear & effective communication skills, begins with Actively Listening to others, to really hear them, showing empathy, understanding and respect. This supports building trust, which is essential for maintaining healthy relationships. Once we have these in place, we can build in other aspects like setting expectations, conflict resolution, teamwork & collaboration or problem solving. Family members who understand and manage emotions, can relate to each other’s emotions & often have stronger relationships. This in turn. fosters an environment where families can begin to cultivate conflict avoidance (nip it early), time management, adaptability (roles & responsibility changes) & empowerment of family members.
Passion & Purpose
To know our Purpose, we first have to know who we really are. When we know who or how we want to show up in the world, we can be more discerning about who, where, what and how we spend our time & energy.
Passion & Purpose bring meaning to our lives. It is the ‘something bigger than myself’, that gives us a sense of connection outside of ourselves. It’s our call to adventure, and connection to a bigger picture for life and the biggest obstacle to it, is most often Ourselves.
Leadership
“AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO” – How we engage with the world inside & outside of ourselves, teaches those around us to do the same. Whether as parents or as leaders, young or older, we are the role-models & guides to the world outside ourselves.
Leadership principles include, respect, speaking from a space of truth & integrity, goal setting, decision-making, and effective problem-solving, along with clear & effective communication . Applying new leadership skills learned, can improve family dynamics, decision-making, and conflict resolution, as well as impact our own sense of purpose and well-being.
Who do you want to BE for yourself first, and then for those around YOU?
We BECOME the ‘voice in their head’ through what we Think, Say & Do, for ourselves & them. After all, how often do you hear the voice or influence of a parent, teacher, or other significant person, in your head? If we want our children to become the leaders we know they can be, without the same Fears, Lack & Responses we have, then we also HAVE to work on ourselves.
What can we change for & about ourselves that will create a more magnificent & fulfilling life for others to see & be involved in? Valuing ourselves, Knowing we are Worthy, and accessing our space of Wholeness, allows us to do this as well as lead by example – AND we move from Surviving to Thriving.
Well-Being
Our Well-being can be further defined as Mental, Physical, Emotional & Spiritual, which can also be expressed as Soul, Heart, Mind & Body. All of these areas are inter-related, and are influenced or impacted by what we Think, Feel & Do. The story we tell ourselves day in and day out, has a big impact on the way we show up in the world. If we are constantly telling ourselves we are dumb, ugly, useless etc, then we will feel like that as well, which impacts our mental health, which in turn will affect our physical health as we stop taking care of ourselves. The majority of us know this on a conscious level, but how many of us still do it at an unconscious level and without thinking about how this is being received and processed by our children.
We all have the ability to Reframe & Train these areas, to change & improve them, which affects our SELF and those around us, either directly or indirectly. And the ways in which we can do this are as varied as we are ourselves. It’s in finding the skills & tools, that work for ourselves and applying them to our daily lives, that we can cultivate a way of being which is beneficial to our bodies, our mental and emotional health, and consequently our purpose or spiritual well-being.
After all, Loving Self & Finding Purpose, has been found to have a direct impact on our well-being & has been linked to mental health & well-being.
Law of Attraction - Not as WooWoo as you may think
Where our thoughts go, our energy flows.
The Law of Attraction is about setting and visualising goals, collective and positive intentions, and cultivating desired outcomes. Sports coaches do this all the time when training athletes. Well-known people who have achieved incredible feats, have visualised themselves reaching the peak, crossing the line, wearing the outfit or driving the car they desire, for example.
Think about when you have been highly focused on a topic or project and how easily it may have been to find the resources, information, people, money, parts etc that you needed at the time. This is because we have a system in our brain that is designed to help us with this, and to filter all the information we are receiving. We can use this system to support us in creating and achieving what we desire.
When we do this together, we can create a greater level of achievement and this helps to bring us together as a family, by setting collective intentions and visualising our ideal family life and relationships.
